A surface you want to touch. Thick layers of paint, worked into relief, cover the canvas in shades of sand, white and earth, flecked with tiny dark dots that recall speckled stone.
Running diagonally across the composition, from the lower left corner to the upper right, is a rough, luminous band of gold, like a seam of ore uncovered in rock. Here and there, patches of copper and rust light up the whole, and a few fine brushstrokes look like fibres on the surface.
In raking light, every ridge casts its own shadow and the work changes throughout the day. A serene, mineral piece with a strong presence.
